Truth or Beard by Penny Reid, read by Joy Nash and Chris Brinkley (Chirp)
Someone in one of my Facebook writers’ groups suggested reading this book. I bought the eBook but with my hectic schedule hadn’t found time to read it, then I received an advertisement for the audiobook and I bought it. Oh-my-goodness! I love this book! I’m so glad I bought the audio because there was the lovely surprise of an interview between Penny Reid and Chris Brinkley that was an awesome bonus.
Truth or Beard starts out with me laughing out loud, I’m not talking about a little giggle, I mean a rip, roaring belly laugh. This book has it all and the wonderful actors who read it for the audiobook brought the characters to life. I want to see this book turned into a movie, though I’m afraid they wouldn’t be able to do it justice.
Duane and his twin brother Beau look alike but they are as different as whiskey and water. While Jessica has always had a bit of a hero-worship crush on Beau, her relationship with his twin was a bit more volatile, they tortured each other as kids.
Mistaken identity, a broken-down vehicle and a threatening biker gang add spice and adventure to this already exciting tale of mismatched lovers. Duane has roots, he’s co-owner of a mechanic shop with his brothers Beau and Cletus. Jessica has wanderlust and plans to leave town as soon as she gets the money. Doomed from the start, will this couple ever figure out a way to be together? Penny Reid takes you through small-town life, dysfunctional families, unique personalities and brings us through a fantastic tale of what happens when your family meddles in your private life.
As hard as I laughed at the beginning, I cried just as hard when Duane and Jessica couldn’t find a way to be together. I felt their heartache and wanted to reach into the book and fix it.
Penny Reid is a new-to- me author, but I can’t wait to read the next book in the Winston Brothers series.
If you haven’t checked out Chirp, now is a good time. Truth or Beard is on sale and the interview at the end was worth the price all by itself.
