If It Wasn’t for the Manger

No Christmas merriment to cheer you

No joy or kindness bring

Without the birth of a baby boy

No glad hosanna’s sing.

If it wasn’t for the manger

The humble baby’s bed

There’d be no cross on Calvary

No victory over death.

There is no magic of Christmas

No miracles nor feast

Greater than the gift of love

The child laid at our feet.

The hope and exultation of the holiday

Are wrapped up in the babe

Who came to earth to teach and love

The world from sorrow save.
