It’s Not the Gift

As you all probably know from my previous posts and blogs, I recently celebrated my birthday. I was blessed by family and friends with gifts from the heart that showed they know me. Many sent cards, which I save and cherish, others little things to make me smile, a Pashmina scarf from my granddaughter, a candle and bag from my daughter-in-law, key lime pie and breakfast from my adopted sis, a funny book and a dragonfly mobile, homemade jam, and brownies. I was even blessed with a serenade as well as phone calls and texts, a few dead presidents and a even a gift card, but no matter what the gift was, it was not about the gift but about the giver and the giving.

My granddaughter bought my scarf at a secondhand shop, but as soon as she saw it she thought of me. That is what the gift means. She thought of me. With each card, social media message, text and phone call, they all said the same thing, you thought of me.

My little granddaughter, before she left wanted to give me something. She brought me some little pastries her babysitter bought, but she was so happy to give them to me. She gave with her whole heart.

No matter if you give a $2 card or a $100 gift, if that gift is given with that person in mind and given from the heart, then it is the perfect gift.

The best gift of all is love. So, wishing you all love, peace and happiness. Thank you for my birthday wishes and gifts.
