Motivation

What gets you motivated, excited, ready to crank out work or start a new project? For most of us the motivation to get up every morning and go to work is the desire to pay our bills.

For those of us who have a second job, or a creative passion, that work might not always result in financial gain. As a writer, I know it might be years and maybe never before my books really make money, but that doesn’t keep me from writing. In fact, I tend to write more. I keep experimenting and searching for that one story or character who is going to launch my career.

What motivates me to write. For each story and character it’s something different but the same, it’s the nagging feeling that you need to tell this story, their story. The character comes into your mind almost like a real person. Some times it’s a situation or incident I feel needs to be addressed and resolving it, even if only in my fictional world feels like an accomplishment. It can also help me understand things from someone else’s perspective. Writing, art of any kind sheds light on a subject, even if it’s in jest. Often, we can reach someone to change their perception by adding a bit of levity. If you want to start a revolution you do it with stories, songs and pictures, not with guns and soldiers. True change begins in the hearts and minds, and they are best reached with art.

What is your motivation?

  1. I totally agree. What we love to do is not based on money. I wanted to ask you if you know anything about the Texas Rangers Wild West show that would have been around in the 1920s and 1930s. My great uncle was a part of the show and the only info I could find was an article in the Billboard Magazine pertaining to the show that was put on back in 1928 at the San Antonio Battle of Flowers. I found your name as I was googling for information regarding the Texas Rangers Wild West show. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Marmie ________________________________

    1. Marnie, I wish I did but it wasn’t part of my research. Check out traveling shows from that time period or if there was a more famous person in the show, you might find info by researching them.
