Beard Science

by Penny Reid, narrated by Joy Nash and Chris Brinkley

#3 Winston Brothers Series

I am addicted to the BEARDS. I don’t know what I’m going to do when Penny Reid runs out of his brothers. Cletus Winston may be my favorite brother. He is mysterious, unique bordering on strange, extremely intelligent to the point of nerdy but with a beard and a sexy bod so it’s okay. He likes to fix things and people. He meddles. So it was not a big surprise to his family when he started helping the Banana Queen.

No one would have expected Jennifer Sylvester aka the Banana Queen to have been the one to blackmail Cletus into doing anything. Sweet, simple, little Jennifer who always does what her parents tell her, who has never even attended public school, wouldn’t be bold enough to try to manipulate the Puppet Master.

Jennifer is tired of being the town joke. She wants to find a husband. She doesn’t expect to find love, she’s just hoping to find someone who’ll be kind and give her lots of babies.

Cletus isn’t interested in sweet, virginal Jennifer. He wants a woman who knows what’s what and won’t be too much trouble. Jennifer is already proving to be a lot of trouble. He can’t seem to stop thinking about her and it’s interfering with his work.

Love and fate often have plans of their own that don’t coincide with the ones you have made for yourself. Cletus and Jennifer soon find out that all their best laid plans are about to be baked into a delicious pie.

Penny Reid has made me laugh out loud, nearly pee my pants, weep uncontrollably and fall head over keester in love with this family and their stories. I want to live in Green Valley with the Winston family.

Joy Nash and Chris Brinkley add their personalities and talents to this fabulous story by giving voice to these characters and making them walk off the page and into my life. I cannot say enough good things about this series. I even spent Christmas money on the next book in the series because I didn’t want to wait a full month for my book allowance. Y’all, I am hooked.

Audiobook Reveiw It’s a Long Story

It’s a Long Story by Willie Nelson and David Ritz,

Narrated by Christopher Ryan Grant

(Audible)

Willie, Waylon and the boys…in 2015, having just turned 80, Willie shares an in-depth look at the good and bad the comprised his life, so far. While the story is narrated by Christopher Ryan Grant, he does a fabulous job of letting you hear Willie’s voice. This autobiography is told in the same style of Willie’s songs, often the words of his songs are shared amid the story. It feels like you are sitting on the porch listening to a good friend tell you about his life. Isn’t that why we love Willie Nelson, his songs, while simple in design have layers of truth that resonates with each of us.

From his boyhood in Texas, through his tumultuous marriages, his family, his songs, his battles with the law and the IRS, Willie unashamedly bares it all. If I didn’t already love him, this autobiography would make me a fan.

Savannah’s Secrets by Reese Ryan

Soul Wrenching and Scorching Scenes

BySherri Lupton Hollisteron March 1, 2018

Savannah’s Secrets by Reese Ryan, The Bourbon Brothers

I loved Reese Ryan’s Pleasure Cove Series. I loved the location, Pleasure Cove is set in part on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and the characters, a host of personalities that filled the pages and made me feel as if they were old friends.

But I believe The Bourbon Brothers are going to be my favorite series. The family dynamics of the Abbotts, the Tennessee hills and the small town feel of Magnolia Lake add something to the stories I can’t quiet name. Perhaps it’s the feeling of belonging or coming home.

Like all of her books, Reese Ryan weaves setting, characters and story into a lovely tapestry that leaves the reader longing to be a part of it.

Intrigue, family drama and a forbidden love amid the beauty of the Tennessee mountains and the big, bourbon empire are a recipe for a great story.

Blake and Savannah would do anything for their families, even risk losing each other. A lie and a half-truth threatens their newly discovered love and leaves them shattered. Can they ever learn to trust each other again? This is a passionate romance that will leave you reaching for the bourbon bottle or the handsome fella beside you. I read the last half of the book with tears in my eyes. From burning down the house hot, steamy sex to the deep, soul wrenching emotions, this book delivers it all and promises to bring it back over and over again as each member of the Abbott family finds their own happy ending.
