Rakes, Rogues and Ne’er-Do-Wells!

Long before rock and roll and leather jackets, blue jeans and black tee shirts, there were the rakes and rogues. Men on the fringes of society.

A rake, or rogue, sometimes called a libertine, is a term, often used in historical fiction especially historical romance. It describes a wealthy or aristocrat man who is known for his dissolute and morally questionable behavior, especially in regards to his sexual relationships. In fiction, he is often depicted as a “lovable scoundrel” who enjoys a life of pleasure and indulgence, but may not be intentionally malicious or harmful. He skirts the line of respectability never quite crossing over into disreputable.

In our anthology, Romancing the Rake, we have redeemed rakes and lovable rogues, and a few libertines and ne’er-do-wells. But when they discover their one true love, they change their ways, well, mostly.
