That’s Where the Music Takes Me!

My new contemporary romance series is a rockstar romantic drama about a group of small-town guys who start their career by dressing as pirates to get gigs. They are the Big Joke of the rock and roll world when they win a battle of the bands reality show competition and go on to make it big. Not everyone is happy and supportive that they’ve reached this zenith, and a few are doing their best to tear them down.

I enjoyed exploring the effects of the paparazzi and the media on fame, as well as the egos of these young performers. It’s easy to be up when everyone is praising you and boosting your ego, but how do you keep up the momentum when they are trying to tear you down?  

The relationship between these four guys isn’t just about the music. Two are brothers, twins, three have been friends and sometimes enemies since elementary school with the fourth joining them in middle school. They know each other’s secrets, their families, and about the one that got away.

In the first story, which I’m still working on a title, right now it is called Wish Upon a Shooting Rockstar, Cy and Rhett have been couple since kindergarten. They were best friends, lovers, enemies and when Cy believes he’s lost her forever, he discovers he can’t live without her.

I have had a little bit of fun rediscovering rock and roll, from some of my favorite songs to some new songs I’ve had to research. While listening to YouTube videos on music with the Professor of Rock and fiction writing videos by Johnathan Fox of Book Fox and Writer Brandon McNulty, as well as a few others, I got the fun idea to name each chapter heading after song titles mostly rock songs. With fifty-two chapters that has been an interesting feat, but researching the right songs for each chapter has been interesting even if it has been a lot of work.
