Do you ever DNR or DNF a book simply because you didn’t like the name of one of the characters? We all have certain names that we associate with someone we don’t like or maybe someone we loved who hurt us in some way whether by death or betrayal. Reading is an intimate endeavor and it is understandable that we, as readers, have certain triggers that cause us to turn away from a book. Because we often see ourselves in as the main character, having a character with a similar name to our archenemy or our recently deceased grandma might push us out of the story.
They say never judge a book by its cover but in this day and age, we often have just a one-inch rectangle in which to find a book or sell one. We look for covers that are attractive, that gain our attention. We also look for titles that are inviting.
I’m working on my titles for the upcoming series. It’s a rock star romance and I’d thought of using star in the titles like Wish Upon a Shooting Rock Star, Catch a Falling Rock Star, or maybe Twinkle, Twinkle Shining Rock Star… okay, the last one was just for fun. But as I was trying to come up with at least four titles using Rock Star with premise of children’s songs and familiar sayings, I ran out of good ideas. Do you have any star ideas? Or maybe I should consider other names for this series. I have considered The One He Left Behind for book one, and The One He Let Get Away for book two, but I’m still not sure they work.
I’ve considered taking ideas from some classic love songs. If you have some ideas, I’d love to hear them.
Book 1: secret baby, childhood best friend to lover to enemy to second chance. He’s the bad boy lead singer and she’s a chef and whiskey maker. They have to have faith in each other and risk it all for love.
Book 2: reunited for a wedding college friends hook up and admit their past crushes during a game of strip poker and a hurricane. They offer each other the missing piece to make their lives better.
Book 3: she was his high school crush, she thought he was making fun of her and became his worst nightmare, but fate brings them together again and they learn to trust each other, and fall in love.
Book 4: he never planned to settle down but when he breaks his leg, his mother’s match making brings him an angel of mercy who steals his heart.
Book 5: for every good thing that comes his way, he loses something else, so he never expected to be reunited with the good doctor. She was out of his league, but it didn’t stop him from wanting to sing her love songs and promise her forever.
